Getting those scholarships!
There are several components that go into a scholarship application. Before you start your search for free money, gather the following information:

  • Academic resume – this is simply a summary of your high school career. Your academic resume will include your GPA, ACT test score, and class rank. Check out our handy tracking sheet to log clubs you are involved with, sports you participate in, community service hours you complete, and hours you work. Tracking this information now, will make filling out scholarship applications much easier in the future.
  • Letters of recommendation (work & academic) – this is a written endorsement that is provided by a teacher, mentor or boss to bolster your chances of winning a scholarship. Recommendation letters are brief, formal statements that should highlight positive qualities and explain why you will be successful in college studies. You can use this form to organize your request. Asking for a letter the day before the scholarship is due isn’t a great idea, as your reference may not have time to write you a letter.
  • High school transcript – This is a record of your academic accomplishments in high school. It lists every class you took, when you took them, and the grade you received in each class. It’s important to include any dual enrollment or advanced placement (A/P) classes. If you need a copy of your transcript, contact your individual school’s registrar, student services or student counseling offices directly.
