Zoe's Blog - How I Found My Path After High School

The University of Oregon has been my dream school since sophomore year, I came in blind with no idea where to start, how to work collegeboard.org, or find scholarships.

Hello! My name is Zoe Brown, and I am an intern at Reach Higher Montana! I am a recent graduate from Capital High School, and I plan on moving to Eugene, Oregon to study anthropology and social work at the University of Oregon. The University of Oregon has been my dream school since sophomore year, but applying to college was the worst. I came in blind with no idea where to start, how to work collegeboard.org, or find scholarships. My counselor at school helped a lot. I would email her whenever I had a question and always pick her brain about different scholarship websites. One of the websites she showed me was ReachHigherMontana.org. Reach Higher Montana's website includes so much information on college and scholarships and their social media had scholarships I could apply for! They even have a scholarship opportunity for students to design their own sticker!

Some of you might be asking, "why anthropology?" Well, I just recently became interested in this field of study. I found out about this field through the University of Oregon website, where I searched majors, trying to find one that interested me. Anthropology stood out as it had everything I was interested in wrapped into one major. For those who may be unsure what anthropology is, it is the study of humanities. There are cultural and biological studies of this field, both of which are insanely fascinating. My personality leans more towards biological anthropology, where I will study human beings’ anatomy and behavioral aspects. I find it interesting to learn about all the different civilizations and how humans evolved. As for social work, this has become a new interest after working with Reach Higher Montana. The thought of helping kids who may not have the family support they need is super important to me. I want to be there for them and provide them with the education and support they need. Starting the college process can be challenging, but knowing that you can take classes on the things you are interested in makes it worth it. And as a bonus, it can turn into your career!
